Like most of us, you are probably unaware that you already do many things throughout your day that are kind to people and the Earth. 5 Good Deeds is a daily means by which to maintain our awareness on our good intentions and to recognize the kind things we are already doing.
Self
Nope – you’re not being selfish. Your well being helps everyone out.
Family
You do these deeds all the time. Pat yourself on the back
Friends
They are there for you and you are there for them. It goes round and round
Others
It’s the beautiful sense of possibility. The end point is not the thank you.
The Earth
This one ripples out. Daily, monthly, maybe for the next 100 years.
The 5 Good Deeds include:
A good deed for one’s self
A good deed for a family member
A good deed for a friend
A good deed for others (someone you don’t know)
A good deed for the earth
The graphic above symbolizes the concept that every good deed we do for our planet ultimately benefits oneself, family members, friends and others. However, the beauty is that anything that benefits us as individuals also helps the planet. As you adopt a 5 Good Deeds approach to every day, each of us acts in concert with the Earth’s complex and eloquent ecosystem of which we play an integral part.
The good deeds are not independent of each other. For example, doing a good deed for a stranger can result in them becoming a friend. Or perhaps a stranger becomes a friend who eventually becomes a family member. And all of these good deeds foster health of the entire planet and all its inhabitants.
The goal of 5 Good Deeds is to maintain awareness of doing good deeds for all on a day-to-day basis. But please recognize that guilt is not part of the equation. No one is expected to do all five good deeds in a single day, though elevated personal awareness inevitably increases the likelihood of doing so.
